Dining in South Africa.

Hello, cheri, & welcome to the Rainbow Nation.

Here, we grow strawberries in the wintertime. (which is actually the summertime. but their summer is my winter & today it’s probably warm enough to dip your feet into the waters of Cape Town, but come July it’ll be frosty all over again.)

Anyway, whoever said you can’t eat summer salads in the snow? The South African’s take on food is much like my approach to fashion: It’s not about following the rules — no white in winter, no avocado when it’s cold. It’s about doing what you like, whenever you like. And if that means mixing metallics or slurping soup in the summer, so be it.

Always remember, cheri, you determine the rules by which you live.
