The Power of Story.

  • Eating: Ice cream. Moose Tracks cures mono, right?

“Stories matter. Stories have been used to dispossess and to malign, but stories can also be used to empower and to humanize. Stories can break the dignity of a people, but stories can also repair that broken dignity.”

I wanted to share with you all this quote by Chimamanda Adichie, a Nigerian novelist, who made a speech on stereotyping that we were asked to view for my intercultural studies class. This quote I found to be particularly inspiring, as a story teller in training. She was speaking about the power of story & the pitfalls of forming a “single story” idea of a certain people group. The talk was really quite wonderful. More soon–
