Bon morning, cheri.

It’s grey outside today. Looking through my window, I see slopes & trenches in the grass below slowly being filled to the brim; tiny ponds in the middle of a sea of browning grass. Umbrellas & hoods hide faces & friends, & no one dares wear anything but black. But I’m tucked away in my bed in a turquoise dress & cashmere. A Charleston-scented candle is flickering to my left, a comforting cup of warm coffee is on my right. And everything is okay.

Normally I loathe these kind of days, especially as they occur so frequently here in the cooler months of West Tennessee. But it’s been an unusually dry season in town for a while now, & though I’m sure I’ll be hating them soon, there’s something sentimental about these dreary days. I suppose they’re such a staple of this place that it doesn’t seem quite as much like home without the feeling of waterlogged ankles & frosty fingers & toes.

But while I’m seeking asylum inside, I thought I’d share some photos I finally got back last night. I’ve been shooting some with my new Holga Twin Image Maker, a birthday gift from the dearest of long-lost friends (he’s all the way in LA now, you see), and I just picked up my first roll of film last night! Of course, they are far from grand. But I’m pleased they even came out at all alright. Now I know the left half of the image is larger than the right, just because there is a “shady” setting does not mean the camera does well in the dark, & so much more.

Here’s to the hoping for better next time around!

J’adore!
